Arepas, empanadas, and other South American bites make up the menu at Pampasazone, a Fairfax eatery that opened its doors less than two months ago. Locals are quickly getting acquainted with the authentic food that Pampasazone serves in its simple, casual dining room, and the early reviews are promising.
Order a few arepas or empanadas and you might be surprised by how filling they are. Each arepa sandwich features two flat corn cakes in lieu of bread, but the ingredients stuffed inside are up to you. Try the pulled pork with cheese and caramelized onions, the sausage and chimichurri sauce, or the pulled chicken with pickled onions and cheese. The empanadas come in traditional Argentinean or Colombian style with stuffings such as beef, chicken, and cheese. For a more filling meal, try the shrimp skewers, the grilled skirt steak, or the breaded chicken Milanesa.
